On the Edge of the Outer Rim: What’s Next for Star Wars Shatterpoint?

We are very excited about the upcoming announcements for Star Wars Shatterpoint. We have a habit of digging in real deep with our speculations and this will be no exception. Maybe this time ... we can get a few correct (previous predictions didn't blossom the way we anticipated). Currently Atomic Mass Games has announced Secure the Future and My Loyalty, My Life Squad Pack(s) bringing Thrawn's henchmen into the mix in early 2026. We were also teased a few additional terrain sets but no images yet.

Confirmed Upcoming Kits

During Adepticon 2025 AMG laid out 2025 and the start of the year of 2026 releases. We are headed at lightspeed for 2026 and here is what we know so far:

Phil hit on a lot of the the boxes I see coming too. Here is my wishlist:
  • MORE MISSIONS AND NARRATIVE PLAY - How about officially printed missions and tokens
  • Clone Wars Wookies: Tarful, Chewie, and two wookie warrior
  • Clone Wars Gungans: Roos Tarpals, Jar Jar Binks, and 2-3 Gungan warriors
  • Skeleton Crew: Jod Na Nawoo, SM-33, Brutus, and Beef
Supplemental packs like the Bounty Hunters but for each faction that is currently available (Jedi, CIS, Republic, Empire, Rebels.) Making it so the pirates could get to the table once and a while.

Terrain

As a world class painter and artist I have put together my vision of what each of the new terrain sets will look like:
Outer Rim Market Terrain Pack

Awnings, The theme in the next couple terrain kits will be awnings - completely disregarding the gantry gutter system on the outside of the terrain. This will come with a few Porgs to scatter. Maybe some roasting on a spit ready to be purchased.

This will go one of two ways. It is going to be a giant building or smaller nomadic looking stalls. If they scatter huts, I could see an old podracer engine being used for part of the setup. It will come with a Jawa friend to sell his droid wares. Obviously lots and lots of droids. Maybe ANOTHER Gonk.

Wouldn't it be cool if it was not a Moisture Farm from Tatooine? Let's get a calf Bantha or baby Dewback with this one.

Wake Drannor

Wake Drannor

I support everything Tom's cooking with his terrain concepts, and I would absolutely be here for stuff from Skeleton Crew, which was highly underrated.

Bold Predictions!
  • A Hoth Box: some combo of Han, Leia, Luke, and/or Chewie as primary/secondary (probably Han and one of Leia or Luke?) and Rebel Veterans (like in Legion) supports.
  • Yoda in some form, possibly with General Tarfful secondary and Wookiee Warrior supports or Thire, Jek, and Rys (the three clones he fought alongside in the first episode in release order of the Clone Wars TV series).
  • Duel of the Fates- Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn primary, Darth Maul (Sith Apprentice) Secondary, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Destined Padawan) support
  • Something else for Separatists- maybe General Loathsom or Admiral Trench?
  • More terrain that weirdly straddles the line between Legion and Shatterpoint without properly connecting to Shatterpoint's gantry system...
Nerfs and Buffs?

Honestly, I don't expect to see any.  We're so close to the reworks at the beginning of the summer and the game is in generally a very good place, with one notable exception (see below).  Some units (Cassian, Baze and Chirrut, Delta Squad) are overrepresented at present, but we've seen that before, and the "problem units" are all very new.  I don't think much if anything in the way of nerfs is warranted at present until we see how the meta adjusts- and I'm generally a proponent of buffs over nerfs anyways.

If we were going to see any changes, I'd like to see them focused on some of the under-performing units needing a little love:
  • Padme's whole box.  She is one of the central characters of the prequel era, and she is by far the worst Republic box right now, possibly one of the weakest in the game. (Not the weakest, though- Veers has got you covered, Padme!)
  • Separatists overall, particularly their supporting units.
  • Vanilla Stormtroopers & Snowtroopers.  They're (after Darth Vader) in many ways the most iconic things in the entire franchise.  They deserve to be more playable.
  • Plo Koon- give the man a decent Identity!  He's so close to feeling great to play; if the bottom of his card didn't feel blank most of the time, he'd be set.
  • General Veers- I'm not sure what the man is doing, but it's not tactical brilliance.  He needs some help.
Rule Reworks

Ok, this is the one change I think is really needed for the good of the game- either forward deployment rules (such as those on the Rebel Commandoes, ISF, and Cmdr. Ponds) need to go or Never Tell Me the Odds does.  The disparity created by the existence of these units in combination with this asymmetric scenario warps conversations around listbuilding and forces choices that are more reactionary than interesting.

Personally, I'd just like to see the forward deployment rules gone, or at least tied into specific (restrictive) combinations that require some degree of sacrifice to field.  The potential they create to blast opponents' models in their deployment area and pin down their whole unpack is just not a ton of fun to play against- it's beatable, for sure, but just because something can be overcome by good play doesn't mean it's a ton of fun or good for the game.  When you combine the advantages of that forward pressure with the edge it gives on Odds against any list that doesn't have access to forward deployment, things can get pretty skew-y.  I like that Odds has some risk-taking with it and that it forces different choices than the other scenarios, but when one player is having to make those choices and the other isn't, especially when some "factions" have easy access to these tools and others don't, it doesn't feel like a balanced scenario.

TL;DR- Odds interesting but forward deployment not great; keep the interesting scenario and get rid of the deployment type that skews it.

All Shall Be as the Force Wills It

To be honest, I think we're in a great place with the game right now.  I keep trying new things for Shatterpoint and finding exciting new angles to explore.  It's a great time to visit a galaxy far-far away.  Here's to another year of great stuff for the game!

Cody (tatetothetot)

Star wars is an ever expansive universe so these moments are exciting to say the least.  I’m going to divide my list from wishlist to expectations.  My wishlist is what I would want if I am allowed anything.  My expectations are more realistic in what AMG will likely put out for us.

Wishlist

Dual Box: Yoda vs Palpatine Two of the most powerful force users in the game and I can’t wait to see how they impact the table.  I fully expect some crazy movement options from them both.  Notably, they are slow characters that can have explosive speed in a duel.  Perhaps an ability that allows them to take multiple dashes on attacks similar to what Jyn Erso does.

General Yoda on Kashyyyk How awesome would it be to have Yoda leading some wookies into battle? The ever thoughtful general and patient master with high health, melee support monsters.  This box would be intimidating for sure.

Krrsantan The black hair Wookie is a bounty hunter from the Book of Boba Fett.  I’ve always loved my Wookies and Ewoks but this character specifically feels like a fun way to add some unique flavor to the game.  He would obviously have the bounty hunter and scoundrel tag but I’m curious if there would be many other synergies or if he would just be a beat stick.

Expectations

Primary Bo Katan Bo needs her dark saber!  I want to see her lead Clan Wren to battle which could offer some different options to the Mandalorian builds.  I think this is a reasonable expectation since AMG has shown favor to Mandalorians with the Armorer release.  This is a natural next step for that sub faction.

Harch Admiral Trench and droids I feel like the community has been let down a bit in the last year with droids but this is the proper time to finally give us something new.  Trench is right up AMG’s ally when it comes to unique Clone Wars models.  I don’t think he will come with droidekas unfortunately but maybe we get Nute Gunray instead as a Primary as droidekas with that box makes a ton of sense.

No Model Adjustments I know people will want some buffs or nerfs but I don’t think this is the time to do it.  It hasn’t been long enough since the last adjustment and we probably won’t see anything change until a year at least.  Adepticon is a better spot to hope for another balance pass.  Besides, the meta really isn’t in that terrible of a space when you consider the Iden era of dominance.  Yes, Cassian is everywhere but he is far from the only model I’m worried about.

Ploogakoid

We are in a good place for competitive balance especially if Separatists get some love via a droid Unit box or something similar. However certain units, looking at you Cassian, are very common. We won't see buffs or nerfs yet but my hope is that we see some less aggressive options added to Empire, Seps and Scoundrels to discourage revenge triggers announced.

I also expect a new Separatist box or two that are need a bit of love to round out the faction but as we go into year three what I would really love to see the introduction of sequel era factions. New Order and Resistance faction tags would open up a lot of new territory for strike team composition and strategies.

Finally and most importantly I hope that 2026 sees the continued growth of the game. 2025 seemed to see more and larger events at the local and regional level. Hopefully with more new releases, continued local and GT Organized Play support we can all continue to grow our local communities. I expect announcements of new tournament and league kits to be forth coming.
