Hey everybody, today we're going to be working Spider-Man Noir! During the height of the Great Depression, Peter Parker is bitten by a spider and falls unconscious. Having visions of a spider god, he awakens with super-human abilities. He becomes the vigilante, The Spider-Man and takes on the criminals of New York City, fighting Norman "The Goblin" Osborn and other noir versions of his rogues gallery.
While many folks will likely know Spider-Man Noir from the Spiderverse films, voiced by none other than Nic Cage, I was first introduced to this darker version of Spider-Man via the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions video game. His levels in this game were really interesting and presented in a sepia tone style. This always stuck with me and I knew when I saw him at the Adepticon preview I needed to paint him in a similar style.
So with that in mind, I went to work painting Noir himself in black and sepia. For this, I used Ushabti Bone and Ivory to make that happen. In the image below, you'll find a handy paint chart of all the colors that were used on this model.

Leather Suit Sections
Basecoat - Vallejo Model Color Black: Citadel Ushabti Bone
Layer - Previous Mix: Citadel Ushabti Bone
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive Ivory
Highlight - Previous Mix: More AK Interactive Ivory
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive White
To get started, I painted his mask, gloves, chest and boots with a mix of Black and Ushabti Bone. I then added more Ushabti Bone to the mix and painted any areas that would be catching light. From there I added Ivory to the mix to begin adding highlights to any ridges. I added more Ivory to the mix for an additional highlights and finally added a small about of White for the brightest highlights.
Non-Leather Suit Sections
Basecoat - Vallejo Model Color Black: Citadel Ushabti Bone
Layer - Previous Mix: Citadel Ushabti Bone
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive Ivory
Highlight - Previous Mix: More AK Interactive Ivory
The coat, pants and hat were painted in a similar fashion as the leather pieces. The only real difference was that I didn't go with the White highlight step. This way, these parts seem a bit more dull.
Lenses
Basecoat - Citadel Adminstratum Grey: Citadel Ushabti Bone
Highlight - AK Interactive Ivory
Highlight - AK Interactive White
The lenses of his goggles were given a basecoat of Adminstratum Grey mixed with Ushabti Bone. I then added highlights of Ivory and White to make them very shiny.
Concrete Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Stormvermin Fur
Stipple - Citadel Adminstratum Grey
Stipple - Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Wash - Citadel Nuln Oil
The concrete sections of his basing were given a basecoat of Stormvermin Fur. Using an old brush, these areas were then stippled with Adminstratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey. The whole concrete area is then given a heavy wash of Nuln Oil, which will shade all of the recesses and stain the surface a bit too.
Dirt Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Gorthor Brown
Wash - Citadel Agrax Earthshade
The brown dirt of the base is super simple. I paint all of it Gorthor Brown and then give it a heavy wash of Agrax Earthshade. I also painted the brick on his base Doombull Brown, before the wash was applied.

With that, Spider-Man Noir is ready bring the fight to a technicolor world in games of Marvel: Crisis Protocol! While there's still room for improvement here - especially since it's a style I've not really tried focusing on before - I think I met my goal to hit the dark colors and sepia theme.
