Hey everybody! For today's How to Paint Everything, I'll be showing you all how I painted Spider-Man 2099. Miguel has always been one of my favorite variations of Spider-Man, having first seen him while my cousins and I were collecting Marvel trading cards back in the 90s. So I was very excited to see him coming into Marvel: Crisis Protocol. He's had a lot of adventures in the main 616 continunity of the comics, my favorite of which being from the Superior Spider-Man series.
If you're not familiar with Spider-Man 2099, or have only been recently introduced to him via the Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, here's a general run down of Miguel O'Hara. It's been 100 years since the Age of Heroes ended in catastrophe and now the world is a futuristic cyberpunk dystopia. Miguel was a scientist from living in New York, working for the Alchemax megacorporation. In a bid by the CEO to blackmail him for attempting to leave the company, he's injected with a drug called Rapture which binds to his DNA. He later uses his research into gene alteration to attempt to clean himself of Rapture and inadvertently gives himself powers similar to Spider-Man, when the machine injects him with 50% spider DNA.
Before I get started, I should note that Spider-Man 2099's suit was originally intended to be black and red, much like Peter Parker's original suit. Like Spider-Man's Amazing Fantasy appearance, it was given blue highlights to make it pop more, and eventually led to confusion of the color scheme. I feel like a dark blue is the better choice for the model, so I painted him with a dark blue suit using the darkest hue I had on hand, the ancient Citadel Foundation paint Necron Abyss. This color has long since been discontinued, but you can find a similar color in Citadel's Night Lords Blue instead. But if you have a dark blue that works, you can sub that too.
So let's get to it. Below, you'll find a handy paint chart featuring all of the colors that were used for paint Spider-Man 2099.

Blue Suit Sections
Basecoat - Citadel Necron Abyss (OOP Color, substitute for Citadel Night Lords Blue or a similar deep blue)
Shadows - Citadel Necron Abyss: Vallejo Model Color Black
Clean-Up Layer - Citadel Necron Abyss
Layer - Citadel Necron Abyss: Citadel Caledor Sky
Highlight - Citadel Caledor Sky
Highlight - Citadel Caledor Sky: Citadel Teclis Blue
Miguel's entire suit was given a solid basecoat of Necron Abyss, which was fairly easy to do, considering the old Foundation Paints had amazing coverage - reminder, this is an OOP color, so feel free to sub it with a dark blue of your choice. For the shadows and recesses of his musculature, I mixed Black into Necron Abyss and painted that into any shadowed areas.
After a quick clean-up layer of Necron Abyss, I started highlighting. The highlights started with a layer of Necron Abyss mixed with Caledor Sky. This was followed by a highlight using straight Caledor Sky and finally one last highlight of Caledor Sky mixed with Teclis Blue.
Red Suit Sections
Basecoat - Citadel Mephiston Red
Shadows - Citadel Mephiston Red: Citadel Warpstone Glow
Layer - Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet
Highlight - Citadel Wild Rider Red
The red trim of his eyes and chest embellishments were first given a basecoat of Mephiston Red. I then mixed Warpstone Glow into Mephiston Red and painted that into any recesses that needed shading. I then worked up highlights with Evil Sunz Scarlet, on any areas that would catch light and the edges. The red was then finished with another highlight of Wild Rider Red on the edges and the brightest points of the highlights.
Webbing
Basecoat - AK Interactive Pastel Green
Wash - Citadel Contrast Apothecary White
Highlight - AK Interactive Pastel Green
Highlight - AK Interactive Ivory
Each of my Spider-Men (and Women) have a different color for their webbing effects. This started on accident, because I couldn't remember what colors I used for my original Amazing Spider-Man. Now, it feels like each one has a slightly different formula for their webbing, which is nice.
For Miguel, I painted all of his webbing and his web cape Pastel Green. I washed it all with Apothecary White Contrast paint, to catch all of the details and shade the recesses. I then highlighted it back up with Pastel Green and Ivory.
Metal Pole Steel Sections
Basecoat - Vallejo Model Color Black
Drybrush - Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey
Drybrush - AK Interactive White
The metal pole that Spider-Man 2099 is standing on started needed to be some kind of steel, but I didn't want it to be super shiny. Instead I opted to use some grey tones and drybrushing to make it feel like it's been out in the weather and maybe galvanized instead of raw steel. Starting with an even basecoat of Black, I followed it up with a quick drybrush of Mechanicus Standard Grey. This was then given an easy drybrushed highlight of White.
Copper Metal Sections
Basecoat - Citadel Rhinox Hide
Drybrush - Citadel Mournfang Brown
Drybrush - Citadel Fire Dragon Bright
The panels of the post needed to stand out a bit from the steel, so I decided to paint them a copper color. This was done by painted the panels Rhinox Hide and then giving them quick drybrushings of Mournfang Brown and Fire Dragon Bright.
Alchemax Sign
Basecoat - Citadel Warpstone Glow
Lettering - AK Interactive White
Wash - AK Interactive The Inks Flourscent Green
Highlight - AK Interactive White
The Alchemax sign recess a basecoat of Warpstone Glow and the lettering White. Using Fluorescent Green Ink, I gave the lettering and recessed area a wash. Once it was all dry, I touched up the lettering with a highlight of White.
Dirt Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Gorthor Brown
Wash - Citadel Agrax Earthshade
The dirt on his base is always done as simple as possible. I just give it a even basecoat of Gorthor Brown and then follow it up with a wash oh Agrax Earthshade to darken the recesses of the texture.
Concrete Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Stormvermin Fur
Stipple - Citadel Adminstratum Grey
Stipple - Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Wash - Citadel Nuln Oil
As usual, the concrete sections of the base were painted Stormvermin fur. Then, using an old brush, I stippled the surface with Administratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey. It was finished off with a splotchy wash of Nuln Oil to give it some surface staining and shade any recesses.
