Hey everybody, for today's How to Paint Everything we will be taking a look at Silk! When Peter Parker was bitten by the radioactive spider, his classmate Cindy Moon happened to also be bitten by the same spider before it died. She developed a set of spider powers of her own, including organic webbing. Unfortunately she was held captive for years, before escaping, and played a big part in the original Spiderverse event in the comics.
Cindy's suit features a red mask and a two tone red and black webbing design, over white with black leggings and sleeves. This was actually more of a challenge than I expected and I ended up painting the red and black sections first, followed by the white areas, which I'll get into in a bit.
As always, you'll find a handy paint chart below which will show all the colors that were used on Silk. So let's get into it!

Skin
Basecoat - Reaper Master Series Rosey Skin
Layer - Reaper Master Series Rosey Skin: Reaper Master Series Rosey Highlight
Highlight - Reaper Master Series Rosey Highlight
There's not a lot of skin showing on Silk, its just the top half of her face. With that in mind, we can go relatively simple on her skin tones. I started with a basecoat of Rosey Skin. I added a layer of Rosey Skin mixed with Rosey Highlight and then highlighted it with Rosey Highlight on its own.
Hair
Basecoat - Vallejo Model Color Black: Citadel Rhinox Hide
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive French Blue
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive Snow Blue
Her hair was given a basecoat of Black mixed with Rhinox Hide to give it a bit of color. I then mixed in French Blue for the first highlight and then added in Snow Blue to the mix for the second highlight. I used the basecoat color for her eyebrows and eyeliner.
Black Suit Sections
Basecoat - Vallejo Model Color Black: Citadel Incubi Darkness
Layer - Previous Mix: More Citadel Incubi Darkness
Highlight - Previous Mix: AK Interactive Ice Yellow
Highlight - Previous Mix: More AK Interactive Ice Yellow
Wash - Citadel Nuln Oil
The black suit and webbing sections were painted using a mix of Black and Incubi Darkness. These areas were then painted with another layer using this mix with extra Incubi Darkness added into it. Using the same mix, add in Ice Yellow and highlight the arms and legs. A final highlight was added using some more Ice Yellow in the mix. Finally, to tie it all together, I gave these areas a wash of Nuln Oil.
Red Suit Sections
Basecoat - Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet
Shadows - Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet: Citadel Warpstone Glow
Clean-Up Layer - Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet
Highlight - Citadel Wild Rider Red
The red sections of her webbing and mask were given a basecoat of Evil Sunz Scarlet. I added shadows under her chin, cheeks and on her chest, using Evil Sunz Scarlet mixed with Warpstone Glow. I cleaned up a few areas with Evil Sunz Scarlet and finished it off with a highlight of Wild Rider Red.
White Suit Sections
Basecoat - Citadel Adminstratum Grey
Layer - Citadel Ulthuan Grey
Highlight - AK Interactive White
The real challenge in all of this was trying to get a clean looking white on top of all of these colors. To neutralize the red and black, I started with a basecoat of Administratum Grey. This was painted in multiple layers to try an knock down as much of the underlaying colors as possible. I then gave it a layer of Ulthuan Grey and a highlight of White.
Webbing
Basecoat - AK Interactive Pastel Yellow
Highlight - AK Interactive White
I like having different webbing colors on each of the spider-people. For Silk, I wanted a yellowish webbing. With that in mind, the webbing was painted Pastel Yellow. I then gave it all a simple highlight with White.
Downed Goblin Glider
Basecoat - AK Interactive French Blue
Stipple - AK Interactive Snow Blue
Wash - Citadel Nuln Oil
The downed Goblin Glider was given a basecoat of French Blue and was stippled with Snow Blue to add some ding marks to it. To pick out details and shading, I gave a it a quick was of Nuln Oil.
Treadplate Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey
Layer - Citadel Mournfang Brown
Drybrush - Citadel Fire Dragon Bright
Wash - Citadel Agrax Earthshade
The treadplate sections of the base were given a basecoat of Mechanicus Standard Grey. I then use thinned Mournfang Brown and apply splotches to the surface to simulate some brown rust staining. Once that is dry, I do a quick drybrush of Fire Dragon Bright to add some orange rust markings and finish it off with a wash of Agrax Earthshade.
Brickwork Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Doombull Brown
Layer - Citadel Rhinox Hide
Layer - Citadel Tuskgor Fur
Wash - Citadel Agrax Earthshade
The brickwork is given a solid coat of Doombull Brown. I then pick out individual bricks with Rhinox Hide and Tuskgor Fur. It is then given a wash of Agrax Earthshade to add some surface staining and color to the recesses.
Dirt Basing
Basecoat - Citadel Gorthor Brown
Wash - Citadel Agrax Earthshade
The dirt on the base is painted with a simple basecoat of Gorthor Brown. It is then given a heavy wash of Agrax Earthshade.

With the base all finished, Silk is now set free and ready to join the rest of the Web Warriors in their fight against the Inheritors or whoever else needs a little bit of web in the face.
