How to Paint Everything: Marvel Crisis Protocol - Prowler

by brushwizard | Feb 12 2026

Hey everybody, in today's How to Paint Everything: Marvel Crisis Protocol we are going to be taking a look at how I painted Miles Morales' good ol' uncle Aaron Davis, the Prowler!

Like Ultimate Spider-Man, which he comes packaged with, this version of the Prowler originates in the Ultimate universe of Marvel comics. As I mentioned earlier, he's the uncle of Miles Morales. He's also directly responsible for Miles gaining his spider powers, having stolen the formula carrying spider that bit him. He's seemingly killed later on. But like all characters who's names aren't Uncle Ben, he comes back eventually.

Prowler's suit is a bold green and purple scheme, which is a nice change of pace when you've been painting a bunch of black and dark suit color schemes, which are plentiful in these new Web Warriors boxes. As always, below you'll find a handy color chart featuring all of the colors that were used on Prowler. Let's get into it!

Green Suit

Prowler's body suit started with a basecoat of Emerald Forest. I then mixed a small amount Angelic Red into it to create a shadow color and painted that into all of the dark areas and recesses of the muscles. To clean up some of the muscles for highlighting, I repainted some areas with Emerald Forest. I then mixed Emerald Forest and Leafy Green, and layered that on top of all of the muscles and areas that would catch light. This was followed by a layer of Leafy Green on it's own. Finally, I highlighted the green with a mix of Leafy Green and Warped Yellow.

Yellow Chest Emblem

The chest emblem was given a basecoat of Warped Yellow mixed with Purple. I then started highlighting with a layer of Warped Yellow, followed by another highlight of Warped Yellow mixed with White.

Purple Suit and Cloak

Basecoat - Army Painter Warlock Magenta Shadows - Army Painter Warlock Magenta: Citadel Jokaero Orange Clean-Up Layer - Army Painter Warlock Magenta Layer - Army Painter Warlock Magenta: Army Painter Spellbound Fuchsia Highlight - Army Painter Spellbound Fuchsia Highlight - Army Painter Spellbound Fuchsia: Army Painter Impish Rouge

Prowler's cape and purple sections of his suit were painted using Warlock Magenta, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors. After giving everything an even coat, I mixed Jokaero Orange in to create a shadow color. This was painted in the recesses, the interior of the cape and any other areas that would be shadowed. After cleaning up any mistakes with Warlock Magenta, I started highlighting. To start the highlights, I painted a layer of Warlock Magenta mixed with Spellbound Fuchsia to all the high points, ridges and areas that would catch light. I then followed that up with a highlight of straight Spellbound Fuchsia. To finish it off, I mixed Impish Rouge into Spellbound Fuchsia and gave it one last highlight.

Black Eye Markings and Eyes

The black markings on his mask were painted Black. I gave them a quick highlight using Black Grey and then painted his eyes White without pupils.

Concrete Basing

Basecoat - Citadel Stormvermin Fur Stipple - Citadel Adminstratum Grey Stipple - Citadel Ulthuan Grey Wash - Citadel Nuln Oil

To finish him off, all we need to do is paint the base. To start, I laid down a basecoat of Stormvermin Fur. Once I'm happy with coverage, I then stipple the surface with Adminstratum Grey and Ulthuan Grey to create some texture. It is then finished off with a wash of Nuln Oil, which darkens any recesses and stains the surface, tying it all together.

Prowler is on the prowl! Hold on to your goodies, especially if its of the high tech variety, he's coming for them. Hopefully there's a Spider-Man nearby to help you out. You're going to need it.
