Thoughts

The basic premise of Host GSC has remained the same - massive drop shooting from Neophytes supported by waves of smaller MSU idiot units. They got a stealth buff in the last slate with the cheaper res cost and points drop for Atalan Jackal MSU - this is a very legitimate addition to the pressure and drown approach that Host likes to play, and gives you ways to block and tie up the opponent before the shooting starts. Cutting one Neophyte brick sees off any opponents hoping to take fixed as well, an astute choice. Great work on the event win!

Thoughts

Custodes have dropped down from the heights of their various slate detachments, but remain a solid and consistent army with great counter-attacking potential. This very balanced build takes good backfield shooting, plenty of bricks and some Allarus for mission. Valerian adds a bit of counter-melee debuffing too which helps see of those pressure armies still kicking about. A great list, well done on the top placing.

Thoughts

Szeras copping a points cut in the slate did make me chuckle. The guy can take a whole army to the face in this detachment, and if they do manage to kill him he can stand back up. Absolute value and he lends his mischief to a detachment that is all about frustrating and confusing enemy efforts by phase locking them out of success in one on ones around the board as Wraiths lock down an objective. MSU Skorpekh Lords shine here, and keep the melee push back ticking over as the DDAs get to work behind. Well done on the top placing!

Thoughts

Death Company absolutely slap, and gained a lot of utility after the slate. With Captains you have incredibly punchy full reroll and SUSTAINED HITS trade pieces that actually have OC and flexibility as they can have a much wider range of BA characters around for their buffs now. This list spreads the threats wide and has plenty of shooting too, which will enable it to stand off opponents, ingress in additional threats when required and throw hands on it's own terms. A great build, well done on the top placing.

Thoughts

Alright, first things first, let's appreciate how much hard work is involved in getting Grey Knights to a final right now. In a meta of mech skew, angry pressure and other related nonsense it isn't easy for the Silver lads to win the day, so that deserves applause. I like the list - packing some Agents allies in just makes sense here, boosting action economy and giving you a bait Vehicle. It works for IK, it'll work for you!

Unfortunately, there are some serious stumbling blocks to success against one of the emergent meta menaces, the Lords of Dread. The CK are viciously fast and can push through terrain to catch angles that a teleporting Daemon hunter could only dream of. The Sticky OC 5 objective stratagem is a NIGHTMARE here. The GK are very low on OC in general, and this forces them to cluster up to retake points - which opens them up to the counter attack. If the GK all-in and lose a few Dreadknights in one on ones with bigger, nastier mech suits, this can spiral hard. As it is, that appears to be how things went down in the end.

Thoughts

I've bemoaned the dominance of whoops all War Dog lists for long enough, so I should do the new CK menace due diligence here. Big Knights are back, and they are back in style. Lords of Dread boasts an exceptional mission play toolkit, capable of locking the opponent out of retaking portions of the board even as the big guys go down in the late game. One per game advance and charge via the Throne of Mechanicum Skulls is awesome on the Rampager, as he rides that one way ticket to oblivion and takes some names on the way out. If you can't repel the full send, you simply find yourself overwhelmed here. Fantastic work on the event win.

Thoughts

A singular, vicious Death Guard list here, which slams Vehicles on the table, shells you at range via souped up Plagueburst Crawlers, and counter attacks with Deathshroud. This is one of the single strongest armies in the game at the moment, and if it goes first it can feel like there is nowhere safe to be. A touch vulnerable to getting tagged, but you have to get there first... Amazing work on the event win Alan!

Thoughts

Sisters appear to have been revitalized by the slate (it's a miracle!!), and reassuringly it isn't just tank spam doing the rounds now either. This list packs in loads of counter-melee and phase locking tricks, making it capable of going toe-to-toe with a wide range of opponents. I really like the MSU Mortifiers- great screening, and an obnoxious profile to remove without overcommitting too, which plays into the Hallowed game plan of drawing out expensive pieces with minimal commitment. Great work on the event win!!

What if Techmarines had loads of attacks?

Thoughts

I like to think this list started with a simple concept - create really dangerous Techmarines. Lone Op, and when those Ballistus go down they suddenly hit like freight trains on the charge in Liberator Assault Group, where the Blood Angels buffs synergise with their datasheet vengeance buffs. Otherwise this is fairly standard stat-checking fare with loads of Blade Guard, but it's a very cool and original build. Well done on the top placing!

Thoughts

Full commitment to the go-wide MSU here, with tonnes of Boyz squads with characters in Trukks. This gives you the option to delay the Waagh if you need, skirmishing for a bit with the OC and T5 bodies, before bringing the hammer down. The meta has got away from Orks a little bit of late, so it is awesome to see the staple detachment bring home an event win by leaning into the raw mission play that still lingers in the book. Really well done on the triumph!

Templars Combat Bricks

Thoughts

Templars have been quiet of late, so it's really cool to see a triple melee brick list break through. In a skew meta, being able to absolutely spank big targets is back in vogue, and whatever their current issues, Templars can still do that really well, with massed Lethals, rerolls and the huge slap-down that Helbrecht can provide. The Terminator brick feels very well placed to take the fight to big knights at the moment! Really well done on the event win.

Thoughts

Votann often have a resurgence when the meta goes to a stat-checking place, and the return of big knights probably has some Kyn licking their lips. Packing the MSU wide gives it plenty of mission play but everything here will slap hurt onto judged targets- and boy is it a target rich environment right now! Really well done on the event win.

  • 2nd (4.5-0.5) - Dale Welten - Tyranids (Subterranean Assault): SA Monster mash, with Haruspex and Exocrines taking advantage of the tunnels placed by multiple Trygon.
  • 3rd - Jake Torsney - Thousand Sons (Rubricae Phalanx): Double Daemon Prince and a Scarab Occult brick in Phalanx - awesome to see this out.
  • 4th - Dean Vincent - Imperial Knights (Noble Lance): Canis, a Cerastus, and loads of Armigers in Noble Lance.

There you have it folks! Tonnes of Warhams being played, Knights of both kinds on the march, and anything tooled up to kill them hanging in there at the top of the game. The meta sure did get bonkers quickly - is it time for a big skew summer? We shall have to find out!
