Thoughts

Aeldari stuff sure still is good! This particular iteration from Jesper packs in the small msu squads, with plenty of Shadow Spectres, Spiders, and some Rangers to provide screening options, scoring, and a little bit of shooting as and when. All the other key pieces are here and I do think triple Spectres still feels the way to go given their enormous flexibility into a range of targets out in the world at the moment. Congratulations on first place!

Thoughts

More elves here, and Joel has gone for the double Avatar version, which I think is the coolest version. Wider ranged threats in the War Walkers instead of investing in a big Wraithguard Brick, giving this a bit more give and go at a distance as the two Gods do the heavy lifting. Very well done on second place!

Thoughts

Sebastien leaves the Chosen back home (presumably still in a Rhino, cackling away), opting instead for two big bricks of Accursed Cultists. These are durable, regenerate models, and can cover the ground deceptively well with a one off advance and charge. Having the tarpit option gives you a get out for when you need to jam something down the enemy that will keep them busy for more than a turn as your excellent shooting picks them off. I really like the balance of this build, congratulations Sebastien!

Thoughts

Artillery is the best way to kill elves - and that goes for by other elves too! Axel packs a list we shall term 'teched for the mirror' with the inclusion of a bunch of Dark Reaper squads alongside some D Cannons (which always struck me as still very, very good yet don't seem to see much use) and the usual suspects. Very dangerous, and very effective, great work.

The Best of the Rest

There were 9 more players on 4-1 records. They were:

  • 6th - Joakim Engström  - Tyranids: Synaptic Nexus Tyranids with a tonne of big shooty bugs and some Zoanthropes alongside scoring support.
  • 7th - Olof Svensson  - Genestealer Cult: Oooo, very nice GSC Acolyte / Neophyte build that takes three Chimaeras full of Catachans to offer some board presence. I've pondered this myself, very cool.

  • 9th - Felix Mathiasson - Leagues of Votann: Fifteen Pioneers, five Sagitaur, and a bunch of Infantry with guns. Do NOT go second into this.
  • 10th - Johan Norrman  - Ultramarines (Ironstorm Spearhead): Ironstorm Ultramarines with all the Dreadnoughts, Whirlwinds, and a creeping sense that this might be the norm for most Marines players for months to come...
  • 11th - Pedro Chavez  - Aeldari: Tonnes of small Bright Lance toting vehicles and some msu infantry.
  • 12th - Dag Samuelsson  - Tyranids: Dag has gamingly named this after John Lennon, as it is indeed pretty much his Synaptic Nexus bug list.

Thoughts

Gladius endures as a very versatile way to play Space Marines, even with new shiny options on display. This list packs in a lot of the usual tools - Lancers for anti-tank, Inceptors for scoring, Infiltrators for board control - but also opts for Ultramarines flavouring in order to bring Marneus Calgar along for the ride. He gives you CP generation, and the unit he plugs into gets fall back shoot and charge, which I assume in this list is used to create a beefy Bladeguard / Victrix / Calgar unit for bullying points at relatively low cost. A real all rounder list. Very well done on the win Jared!

Thoughts

GSC have been regrouping after heavy hits in the dataslate, but this list highlights that a lot of what was working before can still be devastating. It has some predators, but it remains a really nasty set of tools and played well can cause ruination. Interesting to see Prowling Agitant on the Aberrant led Biophagus rather than forward deploy shenanigans - this gives them some sneaky movement and play around tools rather than going all in on trying to shove them forwards turn one. Excellent work Eric.

Thoughts

Guard with lots of tanks, including an absolutely massive tank, always feels like the coolest way to run them. The shooting output here between Banesword and Rogal Dorns is extremely scary, and there is enough utility chaff to shore up scoring. Hellhounds continue to see regular use as cover-stripping support which helps the big guns get to work. Well done on the top placing Nathaniel.

The Ignite triple Nightspinner Aeldari list is still very, very good. Not a tonne else to say, the variation is always in exactly which five man msu squads you bring to tick off the scoring, with Apollo opting for double hawks double spiders here. Very nicely done.

Thoughts

Some very admirable thought has gone into naming all of the units, which is more or less the most unusual thing about what is otherwise a very typical CSM Chosen and Accursed build. Loads of melee reach and bodies for the primary, supplemented by just enough of the top tier shooting unit. Congratulations on a fantastic win and on making me chuckle with all the custom names Brian!

Thoughts

Ok- this one plays out quite one sidedly, unfortunately. The Tyranid Invasion Fleet list is packed with scoring, mission play and some tanky units in the Norns to get on points and make trouble. Invasion Fleet still offers great flexibility to combat and shooting units with some tricks to help them stick around longer too, and I really like the forward deploy threat of the double Genestealer packs. The issue it will have is if it pairs into something that can simply lift it regardless of the defensive buffs available, and sadly it comes up against such a list here.

This Adeptus Mechanicus build is indicative of the ones we have seen succeeding in recent times, with lots of Breachers for output backed up by a mass of cheap scoring and screening units. I love the MSU Dragoons and Las-Chickens to provide additional board coverage and punch, as they give this list the ability to screen out a vast amount of the board as it gets to work. Ultimately Ad Mech boast phenomenally dangerous overwatch and shooting, and are more than capable of using the Skitarii to hold the opponent up for a turn or two as the guns get to work. It looks like the volume was simply too much for the Tyranid list to handle, producing a very heavy Ad Mech win here...

Thoughts

Ad Mech are doing a lot better in a post dataslate world as long as you lean hard into the most efficient shooting tools that they have (Breachers baby!). Master Annihilator on a Tech Priest brings SUSTAINED HITS 1 to the party (creating a horrible Overwatch threat somewhere), and the Omni-Steriliser enhancement does similar, creating one super punchy character with Anti-Infantry 2+ and Anti-Monster 4+ which no doubt helped to outmuscle the Tyranids (famously fans of both Infantry and Monsters) in the final. Congratulations on a storming victory Mate!

Karnivores and Brigands remain extremely good at what they do, and the ability to either sit back and yeet things through walls or go full send and overwhelm the opponent with T10 bodies continues to serve the naughty flavour of Knights extremely well... Thoughts

Space Wolves are having a little resurgence in the new Marines era, and this Gladius take on Thunderwolf Rush highlights the massive threat range they are capable of projecting with a storming win over Eldar in the final. Redemptors, Inceptors and Eradicators shore up any hard target removal the wolves might struggle with, and the doctrines make this extremely flexible in all stages of the game.
