Event News - Goonhammer UK Teams March 2026

Thoughts

Innes Wilson loves long walks on the beach, indirect, and relocation / deep strike antics. The Deathwatch aren't packing much of the former, but by god, they have the rest on lock. Desolators give you the ability to whittle away outer layers and scoring without committing the Kill Teams, so you can focus on playing keep away. The brutal shooting does the rest. Thoughts

Some interesting tweaks on the Blades build here, packing in Sternguard and a Predator to give you additional ways to push damage through hard targets - C'tan in particular are going to shy away from the gunline component of this list. Wardens and Victrix out ahead give you enough pressure and nonsnense to start the party, and the guns will finish it. Tremendous work on the top placing.

Awakened Character Spam

Thoughts

Awakened gets enormous value from the ability to resurrect both Szeras and Ammentar, and this build brings the Silent King along as heft alongside the MSU Skorpekhs and Lords. Loads of flex for both melee and combat match ups here, and far more output than Necrons had before Ammentar came into their lives. Excellent work on the top placing.

Hefty Sub Assault

Thoughts

Matt is a Tyranid specialist, and has been repping this much chunkier version of Sub Assault for some time- Tfex and Zoans give it a lot of hard target removal, and it still packs enough uppy downy antics and melee push via Raveners to force the opponent into awkward screening choices. It has to play a slightly more patient game, but it will generate a very punishing in at some point in a game, and Matt is an expert at taking that chance. Fantastic work on the podium place buddy.

Chunky Wrath

Thoughts

Initial Wrath builds went a bit too hard on melee, and we have seen their outcomes improve as they gradually integrate more by way of supporting shooting. Cent Devs are big beneficiaries of the strength buff in this detachment, and the Lion and DWK are still here in force to hold up combat pressure. A versatile detachment that is slowly growing into the meta- amazing to see it take an event here.

Thoughts

A little down from their earlier dominance, the Blood Angels can nonetheless pack a ridiculous pressure send in RCO. THe double Dread and DC are backed by a Vanguard Vet brick - the massed lethals and damage 1 feel like a potential C'tan answer. Great work on the top placing.

Thoughts

War Horde continues to dominate Ork thinking, and the tried and tested 'Ghaz and a bunch of heroes' takes a top placing here. Timing is everything- get the commit right and you can roll over some of the current meta armies. Get it wrong, or get bogged down, and life gets a lot hard. No easy thing placing this high with Orks right now, so very well done indeed!

Thoughts

I played against a variant of Champions with War Dogs at WTC in the summer, and was really impressed by what the speedy hulls added to the overall Death Guard plan. They add some early impetus and OC as the rest of the army shimmies into position. Champs boasts Contagion flexibility and the ability to absolutely body through a single target - useful tools in this meta! Fantastic work on the top placing.

Thoughts

A showdown that puts too very different philosophies at war with one another. The Thousand Sons are a slowburn army - grow into the game and gradually delete threats to your premier pieces (in this case, the Terminator bricks), before sitting triumphant at the end. Rubricae is a grindier, less spiky version of Thousand Sons but still boasts very real ability to push damage through hard targets.

In the other corner, Mont'ka is here for a good time rather than a long time. I think the key advantage the T'au bring here is a massive width of assets and threat - Ion Hammerheads supporting the Riptides give it more output into elite infantry armies, and the former feel particularly useful for managing and pinning back the Terminator bricks. This creates something of a stand off - in the event it looks to have produced a very close finish, which the Greater Good narrowly took!

Thoughts

Any T'au player bold enough to drop a Riptide from the list has a plan - in this case, it is generating more of a 'go-wide' set of threats, and the ability to respond to a wider range of targets. Mont'ka is loving the moment, and continues to prove insufferable on first drop and first turn. That said, piloting it is a white knuckle ride! Very well done on the event win.

Thoughts

Mixed arms Hallowed Martyrs takes a rare event win for the Sisters in a meta that has been quite hostile to them. I love a number of touches here - the triple MSU mortifiers are excpetionally obnoxious scoring / harassment and force even more bad trades, something Hallowed already excels in via character resurrection. The actual damage here walks a fine line between having enough and falling short if key pieces die, and I think the list requires real skill to use, especially in this current meta. Excellent work on the event win, awesome to see a novel Hallowed build succeed.

One less big bird, a lot more MSU for this Scintillating list, which packs Beasts of Nurgle (truly one of the MVPs of the edition at this point) and a full sized Screamer brick to give you more to play the early game with. If Scint has a weakness it is running out of scoring chaff too soon and being forced to play with the ultimately quite fragile birds before it has done enough damage, so these changes certainly shore that up. Thoughts

An innovative play on Blades of Ultramar takes first here, combining Redemptors for a front facing anvil with Plasmaceptors to sneak in and blast elite infantry - these feel like strong changes for the mirror and the Custodes game, which are both very relevant match ups on your way to the top! The overall balance is very shooting heavy, that seems to be the meta we are in. Amazing work on the win.

Bullgryn Grizzled

Thoughts

Bullgryn slab Grizzled takes the win here- these give you a great pivot in melee match ups and push the foe whilst the guns get to work. It's interesting seeing some Helhounds making a return in Guard lists at the moment - strip cover is pretty clutch into some of the top-meta armies (especially Ultramarines) at the moment, and it can provide a bit of overwatch control ahead of the lines too! Great work on the event win.

A daunting grab bag of all the nastiest Necron nonsense in the Starshatter shell for damage and reactive moves. DDAs, Ammentar, and C'tan all come together beautifully to body people off of the objectives and crush their dreams. An excellent list, and a solid event win, well done!

There you have it folks! The meta throws in a few new surprises, but it still looks very Necron heavy at the top. Chunky stuff and board control is winning the day, with the squishy tricksy armies on a definite downward trend. Plz mr James Workshop, may I has a slate?
