Goonhammer Reviews: Berekh Stornbrow and Tyranid Prime Models

by keewa, Goonhammer Staff | Mar 07 2026

Thank you to Games Workshop for providing these models to us for review.

Rockfish gave her own extremely detailed breakdown of the star of the show for these three models, the Twin Lance, over here; the Goonhammer staff clean up the other two, which are fine models in their own right.

Berekh Stornbrow

keewa: This guy has an incredible amount of swagger, his pose is almost certainly a reference to the bronze statue of Perseus by Benvenuto Cellini in Florence, holding his ork head aloft, even down to the gribbles flowing from the severed neck of this unfortunate greenskin. Berekh’s general appearance is very similar to the rest of the Beserks, shirtless, craggy, the kind of guy whose pint you’d absolutely hate to spill by accident, he needs that Hero-Rock (and it’s quite a big one, raising him up like the rest of the LoV heroes) in order to stand out from the crowd. I’m not a huge fan of the mattock he’s holding; I’d rather have had some options for armament (a regular axe, a sword, that sort of thing) but the tool-turned-weapon aspect certainly fits the miner theme of the Beserks. The build is quite straightforward and the pieces fit together nicely without any troublesome mould lines. If you’re a Leagues of Votann fan like me, you’re probably already going to get this fella, and you should.

Tyranid Prime

Sprue Layout and Construction

The assembly is fairly straight forward on this kit, though it’s important to check the fit on the arms as even though they have keys I found it easy to angle them slightly wrong. All together it does strike an imposing figure, and will look great in a swarm of Hormagaunts. I was worried about the hero rock/pipe and having flashbacks to building the Deathleaper but the connection is much better, which was a relief. I had considered leaving it in sub-assemblies for painting but it’s an open enough pose that I figured it wasn’t needed.

Painting

Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip

I followed one the tutorials here on Go-On-Hammer to paint this bug up in Hive Fleet Jazz colors, wanting a bright happy model as a change of pace from the grittier things I’m used to painting. The details of the soft flesh underneath the arms are a nice touch, and he’ll break up the skin that’s otherwise all over the front of the model. For the lash whip I started by following the tutorial and doing a red wash, but it didn’t stand out enough so I layered red and burgundy contrasts over it, so it really stands out now as a different organism.

Overall this is a really really cool model; shame it’s too expensive to add into a list!
