Eldfall Chronicles Imperial Banner- By Blake Law
Blake Law: When I first started doing these articles for Goonhammer, I saw Keewa working on the game called Eldfall. I immediately messaged and asked if I could get involved. The miniatures are so insanely cool, and the aesthetic is beautiful across the board.
I was thrilled when my first project was Empire of Soga, as it really fits my overall vibe and paint style. This box in particular, Imperial Banner, may have a top 10 all-time model in it. I can't speak more highly, or more enthusiastically, about these models. The Scholar of the True Word is a model worthy of awards. If someone who paints competitively is reading this, PLEASE get this model and go win some major paint events with it! As I write this, I am preparing for Adepticon 2026. I will absolutely be doing my first demo for Eldfall Chronicles there!
Thanks to Freecompany for providing this box for us to review!
Assembly
Blake: Eldfall Chronicles uses the gold standard of casting material: Unicool. Unicool is arguably my favorite material to work with. If you know how to work with quality resin, these guys will be a cake walk. There is some bending that will need to be done. The spear, sword, and swirling scrolls will likely have some bend to them. I used to old trick of boiling water, dipping the part, and then putting it in cold water. It took all three back to their desired shape. Again, this is like working with Forgeworld calibre resin in that regard. Pieces go together perfectly. There may be some minor gapping, but it would be an easy putty fix. I did not putty any of mine.

keewa: As usual with everything resin-based, there's a good chance of bends and warping, as Blake says, heat treatment is usually enough to deal with that. The detail is very sharp and clear, all over very good, as we've come to expect from Freecompany. There are one or two things that were not so good; however, the foremost of which is that the blade of the Bushi Attendant is very thin and brittle
and also extends well beyond the range of the base, so it's completely unprotected. The blades should be much thicker, even if it compromises somewhat on aesthetics. I think that most people are going to have difficulty with this.
Painting
Eldfall Chronicles Imperial Banner- By Blake Law
Blake Law: I went with an overall samurai color theme with these guys. I did gold on the armor. The base here is Scalecolor
Decayed Metal, to Scalecolor
Viking Gold, to ProAcryl
Bright Gold. I finelined it with GW
Snakebite Leather contrast. I created shadows with AP Fanatic Sepia and Burnt Umber ink. My silver is done using ProAcryl
Dark Silver,
Steel, and
Silver.
For the teal, I did AP Fanatic teal progression. I started with their
Scarab Green, then took it to
Pharaoh Guard, then finished it with
Aqua Alchemy. I have used
Amulet Aqua as a final in the past, but didn't here. I do like to add some of the AP Sepia into the edges when I finish it.
My leathers are based around ProAcryl
Burnt Red. I make three mixes of Burnt Red: one 50/50 mixed with black, one straight up, and one 50/50 with AP Fanatic Ice Yellow. I do a wet blend to get it looking like leather, then I edge with the brighter mix. For my bright reds, I use ProAcryl
Bold Pyrrole Red. I do the exact same thing that I do for Burnt Red, except that I typically don't wet blend as much.
