Shieldwall and Hulls Martyrs

Thoughts

We kick off today with another winning outing for the hull-heavy version of Sacresant shieldwall, further cementing my belief that this is quite likely to be a major post-Dataslate player. Retributors are still great, but Castigators don't catch a point hike, so if you want to keep going pretty much as-is, this variant makes things much easier. Fight on Death for Sacresants also continues to be really strong, and for my money this is still superior to the Champions build. Congratulations to Benjamin.

Krootox and Hulls

Thoughts

T'au persevere through the relative advesity they face here, unleashing a hull and Krootox build that combines efficient gun platforms with heavy-hitting counter-charge pieces. Krootox impact Mortals continue to be generically great into most popular lists, but I worry they're not quite enough into big Victrix units, and that this build could have trouble into them. The hits to other top builds are very helpful to this though, and I can definitely see this being overwhelming for updated Aeldari to try and punch through, and solid into some of the rising threats like Thousand Sons by sheer weight of stuff. I don't especially think it needed to catch a 30pts increase, but hopefully lists like this can give T'au some hope in the upcoming season. Well done Drew on second place (losing only to the winner).

Thoughts

Look man, I can count to 36, this ain't it. What this is appears to be all the good Drukhari Characters and Datasheets in a bit pile with a powerful Detachment Rule and Stratagem suite. Drukhari goodstuff rides! I don't have much more to say about it! It clearly worked well though - Ari dropped a game to the T'au build above (which yeah, too much stuff to try and punch through), but was able to pick apart lots of other opponents, including an 18-Victrix build, which is no mean feat. Great stuff!

Thoughts

Rounding out our top four here is another of the Dataslate villains, Admech, with a build that showcases all their best stuff. Accumulated buffs got pushed over the top by the Cawl changes, and all the elite Skitarii and Ironstriders ended up hyper efficient. They're still hyper efficient now, but builds like this will need to drop some units (probably an Ironstrider and making the third unit of each Skitarii type a 5). The Skorpii seen here will likely become more prevalent though, as they don't change, and we may also see more of the builds that bring Destroyers or Breachers, which are cool but have fallen off as people realised you can just take stuff that doesn't need leaders to be good. Well done to Cullen for giving the full AdMech engine a proper sendoff.

Look, sure, leaving Calgar at home for your 18 Victrix list is technically innovative. I ran it through the innovate-o-tron and it popped out the little "innovation" flag and blasted some confetti. Lovely stuff. You get to take Vindicators with Guilliman instead using the points save. Incredible. Congratulations Konrad.

Thoughts

You may be wondering whether I have anything to say about this build. Luckily, I asked Team Scotland's Struan for his own thoughts instead, so take it away Struan (and congratulations on the win).

Struan: I went down to the inaugural Bristol Crusaders GT held at Bristol Independent Gaming (BIG) to support Marcus and Rob in growing their competitive scene. The event was lovely and well run, with lovely people so naturally I showed up with the Victrix boogeyman to be the bad guy. After 5 rounds of violence I can pretty safely conclude the list was oppressive to say the least.

The flexibility and versatility of Gladius combined with the raw power and durability on the datasheets just leaves opponents with too many problems to solve. The general gameplan involved anchoring the midboard with the Honour Guard and then just moving a wall of problems towards the enemy. If the opponent doesn't come out and play you just win through score and if they do, they die.

My T'au opponent killed 3 hulls turn 1 but couldn't deal with the Victrix connecting, my Death Guard opponent killed the Victrix, but couldn't deal with the hulls still scoring, my Grey Knights opponent... well, couldn't deal with anything. 10/10, would recommend.

Highly recommend checking out the set-up at BIG if you're in the area as I know they'll continue to grow with many events planned throughout 2026.

Liberator with Lancers

Thoughts

Amidst all the "Ultramarines" fun, Liberator still gets a runaround here, going for a classic mix of a big Death Company unit, Lancers, and Sanguinary Guard. The latter did well out of the previous Dataslate, helping provide good, wide board presence that threatens foes, while the big Lemartes brick is one of the better things to slam into Victrix Guard, as they'll can both dish out pain and soak up the return swing if they don't get the kill. We've seen a bit of a move towards Fight First Death Company blocks instead of Lemartes, but I suspect with Victrix in the mix, snapping back to Lemartes as Torben does here is the play. Big fan of access to a Callidus to tax Fight on Deaths too, that helps achieve melee supremacy. Congratulations to Torben.

Thoughts

Amongst all the armies of the game, Thousand Sons have a seemingly unique ability to absorb spectacular nerfs and still win events. They did it all through their Index era, and despite crushing nerfs last Dataslate, they've crept back up in win rates this season. Here, they're obviously helped by having Liam Vsl at the helm, using a Scarab Occult anchor for Magnus and a Vortex prince to work around, and not really much else - and still doing just fine. This build doesn't gain too many points in the latest slate, but there are lots of options for the wider faction to try, so we'll see if those more skewed builds take off, or if others just rediscover the love of these core pieces. Well done Liam.

Thoughts

With the advent of an improved Night Lords detachment, plus a discount to Forgefiends for Soulforged, it's now between Deceptors and Fellhammer if you want to show off that you can win with any Chaos Space Marine detachment, as Nick does here. The basic plan is that the army's defences are really great at range, which forces enemies to engage the list in combat where it can then sort of sandpaper them to death, and also has a fairly diverse range of strong countercharge pieces. I am not totally sure what the plan is if you run into 18 Victrix Guard who just brutally out-efficiency you, but at least the Dataslate gives you a 100pts advantage in that situation from where we were last weekend. Big props to Nick for taking a marginal detachment and really making it work.

Thoughts

Some classic Chaos Soup fun for our final list of the week, supporting the classic Screamer/Fadethirster Shadow Legion core with a Knight Despoiler that gets strong cross-faction synergies from the Terminator Sorcerer. AP-3 avenger gatling cannons are quite the thing, and help this list perform unusually well when dicing up enemy elite Infantry. Since that's very much what the metagame demands of you, it's a nice setup to try. Congratulatinos to Nicanor on the win, and well done to the whole Peruvian community for starting to get events off the ground!
