Thoughts

Ultramarines Gladius claims an event triumph, with the established formula of loads of tanks and double Oaths doing the heavy lifting. Gulliman and Calgar rush about, all trimmed and merry, bopping people on the head if they try to interrupt the guns as they do all that cool gun stuff. It keeps on rolling, and Ultras are surely one of the armies you simply have to have a plan for if heading to an event at the moment. Amazing work on the win!

Ynnari Nonsense

Thoughts

Look at all this nonsense! It truly is, a massive pile of nonsense. Ynnari trade better on nonsense than any other faction having carefully horded huge stockpiles of it in their detachment rules, and are capable of utterly blitzing the unwary. They don't love out and out stat checks but if the opposing army triggers their combinations they are insufferable, and they have a huge suite of tools for solving almost any problem. The conclave sneaks in here as a fantastic horde solving unit. Well done on the top placing.

Thoughts

The OG detachment, with a brand new feel! MSU Eightbound slot in as problem solves here ahead of some Forgefiends, Spawn, and a solitary brick of Berzerkers. Double Slaughterbound slots in tastily as well - These carry the enhancements here well (a damage 3 slaughterbound with the Glaive is a very good time) and you get delightfully punchy little units with those attached. Coasting to triumph via a series of extended pile-ins and consolidates feels order of the day here, and I think the new book requires some skill to pilot to a top placing- so very well done!

Vectorum Deathshroud

Thoughts

It hasn't taken the Death Guard community long to boil down to the strength of the Codex - Deathshroud are real good, Blight-launcher Drones are REAL good, and the Poxwalker chaff infiltration helps the party get started. Where you go from there is really a matter of taste- This list brings the mini-Mortarion Deamon Prince, and plenty of Lords to help buff up the various tools. Cheap Stratagems go a LONG way in Vectorum, where getting -1 damage going regularly becomes absolutely clutch. A potent brew, Nurgle would be proud! Very well done on the top placing.

Thoughts

Nurgle's Best Bois take an event, with their patent mix of standing places, refusing to die, and then removing the OC of the other chumps trying to share their space. I've played into this detachment a lot thanks to a 6++ community buddy who loves them (your time has come Laurence!!), and this detachment can absolutely body you if you don't get to grips with the Great Unclean Ones / Rotigus quickly. Low leadership armies simply wilt before it, and the stat check is real. Very real. Fantastic work on the event win!

Thoughts

An utterly brutal Pactbound CSM list that slams the YES button on Possessed - the Undivided bricks can delete god at the touch of a button, and this build has plenty of supporting guns to take full advantage as the opponent tries to clear the wall of tentacled horrors. Beasts of Nurgle and Nurglings continue to provide all-star scoring and screening support. A lot of classic includes here for one of the longest standing competitive heavy hitters of the edition! Well done.

Thoughts

Finely balanced Russ forces here, with some Cavalry, lots of blendy infantry and suitable supporting tanks. Very cool to see a celebratory run out of a bunch of the heroes and special characters ahead of new models and a new book too! Much like Death Guard, Space Wolves are headed into a new ruleset having enjoyed an extended run of serious competitive viability- it will be very interesting seeing which units and combos rise to the top now! Amazing work on the top placing.

Thoughts

Elves versus men who would dearly love to catch said elves and punch them repeatedly. Ahh, a classic tale, and one that hinges very much on both how fast, how numerous, and how determined the men in the story are. For the new World Eaters, speed is certainly not too much of a challenge, with increased movement and, in this case, the Skysplinter esque transport delivery tricks of Goretrack. I've not seen many lists goes as hard on the Berzerkers in this detachment and it does make sense as they carry the buffs best. Maulerfiends give you some serious threat overload potential to buy the transports breathing space. We can really count the WE for determination either, then!

Unfortunately, one issue the new book does seem to have is the give and go trading that losing 5 man Bezerker squads has put to bed. As such, it is going to need to connect hard when it goes and weather quite a Ynnari fight back first. The reality is that a strong Ynnari build (as elf stalwart Ryan's is), has all the tools to thoroughly dismantle the WE once they are committed. The big shooting bricks will reap a toll here (from far enough away that Forgefiends aren't very likely to be getting their rerolls), and there is enough fights first that the Berzerkers will struggle to engage on their terms a lot of the time. This should add up to a reasonable (but respectable) elf win, and that is very much what transpired here.

Thoughts

Like Ryan, I am a devotee of 10 man bricks in Eldar at the moment, for when your cute aspect MSU just doesn't quite cut it. Packing in a few big units to exploit strats and be harder for the opponent to ignore helps Ynnari play their game on their terms better - if you don't shoot those bricks they're going to ruin you, and if you do? Well, you've been doing this a few months, you know what happens when you shoot the murder elves now... Amazing work on the event win Ryan!!!

Thoughts

Clement is a UK Aeldari veteran, and his preferred play style whittles you down viciously in a tide of small strikes by fast units. Yncarne Ynnari suit this down to the ground, and he packs in loads of Swooping Hawk units to chip mortals and exploit Lethal Intent. It spread the threats much wider and is less dependant on static fights first bricks to function, and as a result it is very hard to lay a glove on, a testament both to the power of the Death Elves and Clement's own ability. Really well done on the event win!!

Canis and the Armigers storm to another top placing! Knights are genuinely thriving as we wait on their new book. It's not crazily complicated, but it'll put you on the knife edge and dare you to have a go. Spoilers: A lot of armies do not come off well if they have a go!! Very well done on the event win.
