Abaddon Despoilers

Thoughts

The CSM horde gets in on the 4++ invuln action, plugging Abaddon in as a potent force multiplier / invuln provider. I think the earlier versions of this with the Accursed had certain fragilities that this just passes up on altogether- instead, it is all-in infantry nonsense with Chosen Possessed and Abaddon. The rerolls also helps the list punch up into hard targets - all in all, I think the evolving builds continue to improve. Vashtoor sneaks in there too, because if you haven't noticed, a monster that spikes on saves is king right now. Yikes! Amazing work on the event win.

Canoptek Court C'tan

Thoughts

Delicious Canoptek nonsense meets chunky C'tan - I love this list. An anchor of Wraiths, 3 huge monsters, and then the Doomstalkers plugging away with full rerolls. Court packs some dishonesty too, with reactive moves and a lone op 18 strat. You get close to that triple DDA energy for much cheaper, and can still field enough units to score and screen properly as the C'tan get to work. Excellent work on the top placing.

Thoughts

You don't typically see Magnus in Rubricae Phalanx, but he offers a bit of speed and ranged punch where the Terminators can sometimes be a little lacking. This list cuts back on the tarpit of the Termies, but not so much that it can't bully primary. A nice adjustment to a strong meta build - great work!

Windrider Glory

Thoughts

Colin, you're a star. A genuinely creative list that slams together some opportunities from the dataslate. I've played a couple of games with a similar build but this goes to the full extreme - the whole 36 jetbikers, and 3 Wraithlords. The latter anchor the board and give you a bit of solidity, whilst the rest just teleports around annihilating things. One of the most fun detachments to play in the entire game. Fantastic work sir!

Thoughts

The Chickens took a roasting in the last meta shift, but they're not completely plucked just yet. This list packs a bit more MSU and character screening and scoring in and dials back the full brutality of the massed Chickens. Still a brutal slow burn army that will eviscerate anything that can't get stuck into it quickly. Fantastic work on the event win.

Thoughts

Hulls for MSU melee to sling out of works a treat for the already very fast and deadly LAG Blood Angels. This detachment is sliding back into favour as the meta gets chonky, and I like the addition of the Sang Priest brick and the Assault Cents for added heft and solidity as the Sang Guard fly around murdering people. Excellent list, nice innovation!

Thoughts

Lots of bodies and Repulsors seems to be the tried and true formula for the Templars, and this version shimmies that over into Bastion to access advance and charge and blood surging nonsense. Very good at cutting through stat checks, the list is quite fragile and has to pick it's engagements carefully - being able to sit back on two Repulsors certainly helps with that! Fantastic work on the top placing.

Thoughts

A real grab bag of units (love the cheeky Screamer Killer) in Sub Assault, that highlights the sheer joy of the detachment. Able to pick up so many different angles of attack, it can find space and then punish the foe with some combination of close range charges from monsters, high OC from the Norn, or slung OC from the smaller bugs. Loads of play, and a really cool techy list, well done.

Thoughts

I always try to predict the score before I read the result - I was wrong here. Thousand Sons have traditionally loved Death Guard- the ability to focus them down with Mortal Wounds and rerolls goes a long way, and they're that bit more able to leverage an advantage in one area of the board than the plague boys are. That said, I wondered if Rubricae might miss Magnus a bit and struggle to achieve that absolute gut punch in the same way, especially against the patented Morty / mini Morty stodge list. Turns out, yes it can!

I suspect the key here was sequencing of trades- if Mortarion or the Daemon Prince eat it cheaply and early, or the Deathshroud fail to get their pound of flesh, the Death Guard might find their supporting cast unable to carry the day on their own. I'd have loved to watch this one, well done both.

Thoughts

Rubricae continues to rise, with another all-in Terminator list bringing home the gold. Ahriman makes it in here instead of Magnus (i'm sure he's delighted), and the new Robots find a place as early baiting and infiltration. They're not doing much damage, but they require commitment - and Tsons punish commitment. Fantastic work on the top placings.

Old School Raiders

Thoughts

Traditional Renegade Raiders gets a little Huron glow up -which does it no harm at all. Baby Warp Talons fly about keeping trading pieces honest, and there is plenty of massed shooting here for any armies that want to get in close. Raiders has been passed by a bit by the meta but retains an excellent toolkit for playing good Warhammer - amazing work taking an event win with it!
